Loket nad Ohří – the Loket Castle
The town of Loket was founded in the 13th century. It is dominated by the Gothic castle. Loket was declared the urban monument reserve in 1979. It was precisely the Loket Castle, from which the King Charles IV used to go for hunting. Apparently during one of the hunts his hunting entourage discovered the first Karlsbad (Karlovy Vary) hot spring.
The castle exhibition contains many attractions. Among the most popular is the castle prison with an authentic exhibition of torture, a museum of weapons and exhibition of porcelain.
Attractions in the municipality and its environs:
- An ancient Loket stone castle
- The Museum of Dr. Payer (an exhibit of Karlsbad cups)
- The Slavonian Rotunda
- The Town Hall
- The Baroque Church of St. Wenceslas
- The Holy Trinity Column
- The St. Anna Chapel
- and more ...
