Hot Spring Colonnade and Hot Spring

Since the 16^th century the spring and the geyser of hot mineral water was covered by many structures: the Baroque building, the Classicism colonnade, cast-iron or a temporary wooden colonnade. The next and the most recent structure surrounding the thermal spring dates from the late 60s of the 20th century.

Name	Description
Hot Spring 72 °C	This geyser yields on an average 2.000 litres of mineral water per minute. Today it is the only source used for bathing. The Hot Spring is also used for drinking cures. The Colonnade area contains a total of 5 containers with thermal water at the temperatures of 72, 57 and 41 °C. Due to the pressure, the column of hot spring water can spurt to the height of up to 12 meters.

Underground Hot Spring Excursions

The area for pumping, distribution and control of thermal spring water is located under the floor of the Colonnade. These are also the areas where the aragonite Karlovy Vary souvenirs are “growing”. The old section of the thermal spring provides access for excursions in the thermal spring underground.

During the tour you will see:

the process of petrifying the souvenirs by the spring water and petrified objects in various stages of processing
thermal mineral water discharge
rare organisms living in places washed by the thermal mineral water
pipeline from the last century plugged by aragonite
collection of aragonite and sinter
and other attractions

Opening hours Underground Hot Spring Excursions

Excursion tour is open to the public daily from May to the late September. During the film festival you can also take evening tours (8:00 PM to 10:00 PM). From October to April the underground is accessible to groups, but only by appointment made in advance.
