Briefly about the 100 years of Hotel Imperial’s history

The first idea to build a hotel on a hill overlooking Karlovy Vary was born as early as 1905. Five years later the construction project was launched to be opened to the public during a gala opening ceremony 2 years later, namely on June 18, 1912.

The luxurious hotel was built by means of the then up-to-date technologies to meet the requirements of even the most demanding clientele. Its main assets included not only an exclusive locality, precise architectonic design, luxurious furnishing of rooms and modern spa facilities but also the mode of transporting its guests. To ensure their maximum comfort a cableway was built to help them reach colonnades and springs within but a few seconds.

The new spa hotel quickly established an excellent reputation among foreign clientele that often included famous celebrities. Its successful business performance lasted until World War II. After the war the communist regime took over, which made spa guests rather reluctant to return to the nationalized Hotel Imperial and to the City of Karlovy Vary itself. However, the political situation changed and in 1992 the new hotel owner, the company Imperial Karlovy Vary Inc. made its best efforts to gradually restore the hotel’s original luster and renown. Today the completely reconstructed four-star Hotel Imperial is a three-time holder of the prestigious international World Travel Award granted to the spa hotel in the Czech Republic.
