Mike Downey to Launch and Sign His Book at KVIFF 2025

As part of this year's Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, you can also look forward to a literary program that connects the world of books with the film environment. In collaboration with the Luxor bookstore, renowned producer and President of the European Film Academy Mike Downey will come to Karlovy Vary to present his debut novel Istrian Gold.

This historical novel takes readers to Croatia's Istria and, through a story set across three time periods – from the Roman era, through World War II, to the present day – reveals the intricate fates of characters connected by the mystery of Istrian truffles. Downey masterfully blends suspense, adventure, and deep emotion to create a multilayered tale full of passion and nostalgia.

The festive book launch will be enhanced by the presence of three prominent guests who will serve as honorary patrons:

• Rudolf Biermann, acclaimed film producer and director

• Josef Trojan, one of the most promising young actors

• Karel Och, Artistic Director of the Karlovy Vary IFF

The entire program will be accompanied and moderated by Saša Michailidis, who will open the floor for discussion not only about the book’s background but also the intersection of literature and film.
