Celebration of the 200th Anniversary of Bedřich Smetana’s Birth at Grandhotel Pupp

A festive gala concert will take place this this Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Grandhotel Pupp in Karlovy Vary to mark the 200th anniversary of Bedřich Smetana’s birth. The Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Jiří Štrunc, will perform the most significant works of this giant of Czech music.

The first part of the program will present the iconic movements Vyšehrad and Vltava from the cycle Má vlast, along with the Scherzo from Triumphal Symphony. The second part will feature arias from the operas The Kiss and The Bartered Bride, performed by soprano Ivana Veberová, Thalia Award winner, and tenor Richard Samek, a regular guest of the National Theatre and State Opera in Prague.
