A trip to exotic butterflies

Be prepared to see the most beautiful butterflies from around the world – e.g. from Thailand, from the Philippines, or from the rainforests of South America or Mexico. 

The flight zone itself has over 100 m2, in which more than 300 colourful beauties shall flutter around you, some with a wingspan of up to 20 cm! You will be able to observe almost 30 kinds of butterflies in their natural habitat, including all of the stages of the butterfly’s life cycle – from the egg, to the caterpillar, to the chrysalis, up to the adult specimen. You may glimpse the hatching of a butterfly from their chrysalis with your very eyes, and thus be witness to their first flight ever. 

The Butterfly House provides rare opportunities for photographs, and shall surely please all of those who appreciate the elegance and beauty of exotic butterflies. 

You can also find a souvenir shop offering only items with a butterfly theme at the reception of the Butterfly House. 

Romantic couples are invited to organise their wedding ceremonies directly in the flight zone.

Areal Diana

The historical restaurant for excursionists with an observation tower belongs among the best known and most sought-after destinations in Karlovy Vary as it is the starting point of popular promenade routes to Jelení skok (Deer Jump), Findlater's Obelisk, or the Hot Spring. The well-maintained paths also attract cycling enthusiasts. The complex features a mini zoo, a terrace in the woods, and a shop with souvenirs and refreshments.

 

Getting to Diana

Take advantage of a comfortable ride up the hill in the funicular. The lower station is located next to Grandhotel Pupp in Mariánská Lane. During its operating hours, the funicular runs every 15 minutes. The ride through the spa woods up to Diana is 453 long and takes approx. 3 minutes. On your way, you may admire the marvellous view of Karlovy Vary.

You may reach Diana also on foot or a bicycle along the wood paths:

• From Saint Linhart (a car park is available) – a 45 minutes' walk
• Along the paved path from the Bristol sanatorium (Sova's Path and Friendship Path) – a 30 minutes' walk
• Along marked paths winding along the funicular cableway through the spa woods – a 20 - 40-minute walk depending on the selected route
