Guide to the Golf Courses in the Karlovy Vary Region

The history of Czech golf originated in Karlovy Vary where the first golf course was built in 1904 followed one year later by another course in nearby Mariánské Lázně. Both courses consisted of nine holes. The golf course in Mariánské Lázně had to wait until 1929 to be extended with 9 more holes. The golf tradition in the Karlovy Vary Region has en upheld to this date. Visitors can choose from ten golf courses, seven of them having 18 and three of them 9 holes.

Golf Pass

A Golf Pass holder is entitled to play one game on every one of the five contractual golf courses in the Karlovy Vary Region. The Pass can be bought for 5 200 CZK at the reception desk of any of the five golf grounds. You can save up to 2 300 CZK.

This course was seated in the middle of a horse race track. Its unique design enables a golfer to play the ball 2 times from every tee but the ball is always headed to a different green. This course is ideal for tournaments of lower and middle categories. It is also open to golfers who do not have a green card but are accompanied with a person whose handicap is lower than 54 or with a golf coach.

Golf Resort is one of the oldest golf courses in the Czech Republic as well as in Central Europe. It is located only 5 km from Karlovy Vary downtown. Recently, the whole course underwent complex reconstruction and a new club room was built. This course hosts notable European tournaments. Once a month it witnesses club tournaments. After a tournament or a training practice, golfers can have a rest in a relaxation center or enjoy a range of other available services.

This extensive golf resort of „Scottish type“ has been enjoyed by golfers for 6 years. The course was designed by the world-acclaimed Gary Player Design Company. Its whole premises consist of numerous training areas, including a covered driving range. The honey course is open to the public without a green card. This golf course is an ideal place for championships. In 2003, it hosted the European Juniors Championship.

The golf course is situated near Stanovicka Dam, in a slightly hilly terrain. The premises have been operated since 2004. They are gradually undergoing modifications that will provide golf lovers with more comfort and pleasant amenities. Some golfers may be surprised by an island green at the final, ninth hole. The terrain is suitable for more sport-oriented players.

In the fall of 2006, a new golf course was opened during a gala ceremony at the outskirts of Sokolov. The curse whereas built as part of a land reclamation project in a former brown coal mining area. The eighteen-hole course occupies an area of approximately 200 ha. Every hole has 4 tees. The parameters and qualities of this course make it a prospective candidate to be included among top Czech golf grounds.

This new, 18-hole golf course in Western Bohemia was planned by the famous golf designer Christoph Städler who did not forget to integrate a 150 m wide pond between hole 18 and three tees. The course is gradually completed, however, its driving range and pitch & putting green are already open.

The pleasant ambience of the wooded area known as Slavkovsky Forest is completed with a 9-hole course. In the near future the premises should be enlarged to offer 18 holes. Golfers can use a practicing putting green and a driving range. If the players get tired of golf, they can stroll in a marvelous monastery garden or the very interiors of the Teplá Monastery.

The current number of the holes should be doubled in the future. Luby will thus soon offer golf players 18 greens. The visitors of this rather difficult course will certainly be delighted with the large number of training areas. A 22 m high lookout tower nearby the golf course provides a good reason for a walk.

The first ball was played on this - then 9-hole - golf course by English King Edward VII. However, the course received its attribute „ROYAL“ as late as 2003 when it was granted by Queen Elizabeth II.

The 18-hole course with several indoor and outdoor training fields is very popular with Czech and foreign players. It also hosted several golf championships. The public training golf course is also opened to golfers without a green card.

One of the more difficult golf courses is situated not far from the German border in the Ohře drainage area. A sports golf afternoon can be combined with one of pleasant wellness programs offered in Františkovy Lázně just 5 km away.
