The Spa Treatment Facility Mánes in Karlovy Vary – the spa of our hospital

The Spa Facility Mánes has been part of the Na Homolce Hospital for 6 years. It is a complex of 5 interconnected buildings in a quiet part of the spa territory in the centre of Karlovy Vary where we specialize in treating patients with digestive system diseases, diabetes and obesity. This specialization is offered to the clients of all health insurance companies as well as individual payers. A well-developed education program covered by their health insurance is offered to children with diabetes (2-6 years of age, accompanied by parents). A primary school and kindergarten are part of the Spa Facility Mánes as well.

The Spa Facility Mánes in Karlovy Vary treats children aged 2 to 18 with the following diagnoses:

Type 1 diabetes, with insulin treatment – currently we are the only such facility in the Czech Republic
14-days education stays are available for children with recently diagnosed diabetes
Digestive system diseases, digestive system post-surgery conditions
Coeliac disease – the only ones in the Czech Republic as well
Obesity / overweight conditions – simple and complicated
Increased level of blood lipids

The length of spa treatment stay can be 4 to 6 weeks, in case of children younger than 6 the health insurance company pays for the stay of a parent or grandparent. Besides the spa treatments and school classes, the children will participate in a number of cultural events organized for them by the Spa Facility Mánes.

How to obtain a proposal for spa treatment
Spa treatment is integral part of health care in the Czech Republic so do not be afraid to ask about it. In case of digestive tract diseases ask for the recommendation actively from the medical specialist – the gastroenterologist, hepatologist, or internist. In case of diabetes or obesity, the recommendation is usually issued by the diabetologist or endrocrinologist, respectively the internist. Based on this recommendation, the paediatrician or general practitioner will fill in a proposal for spa treatment covered by the health insurance company. The practitioner will also propose the type of spa treatment in compliance with the valid regulation (comprehensive or partially covered by the patient) and the spa location suitable for the particular disease. The Spa Facility Mánes represents a suitable spa facility for the above mentioned diagnoses.

The comprehensive or partially paid spa treatment is approved by a revision doctor of the respective health insurance company afterwards. If the comprehensive spa treatment is approved the health insurance company will send the approved proposal directly to the spa and the spa will call on the patient to come for his or her stay. The patient will undertake the treatment during their sick-leave. The health insurance company will pay for the spa treatment, full board and accommodation. The approved proposal for a partially paid spa treatment is send to the spa through the health insurance company or the patient who will specify his or her requirements for accommodation and board. The patient will pay for the accommodation and meals by himself or herself, and undertake the spa treatment during their vacation time. The health insurance company will pay only for the medical part of the treatment.
