The 47th International Film Festival Karlovy Vary is here

The popular International Film Festival is back in Karlovy Vary after a year. The atmosphere of the 47^th year can be felt across the town. Nevertheless, the major centre of the festival is located, as usual, in the Hotel Thermal dressed in its festival outfit, with the crowds of tourists pulsating through the adjacent streets.

What is in the pipeline of the KVIFF this year…

The organizers have paid a thorough attention to the offer of films and additional events again. Traditionally, you can meet a number of major world and Czech celebrities.

Films offer

The film fans can choose from the offer of 218 films. Most of them will be presented in Karlovy Vary as world or at least European premieres, 10 of them competing for the major prize. There will be 12 films from Central and Eastern Europe competing in the competition section called “East of the West”. In the documentary films section, there will be 16 films competing, with 12 more in the “Forum of Independents” section. The remaining films are included in different non-competition theme section, as e.g. 10 European films selected by the Variety magazine critics, Czech films, Tributes, theme overviews and retrospects etc. More about the films at the KVIFF >>

Additional events

The KVIFF has been traditionally accompanied by a rich additional programme which is not limited to the festival zone only but it takes part in the more distant corners of the town as well. A number of “refreshment stations” is prepared all the way from the Thermal to the Pupp, with the Jameson Festival Lounge in their lead, the Specialized bike-hire, Beauty Studio L’Oréal Paris, Baby-sitting centre, Vodafone beach, SONY tent and a number of other places where you can try or experience something new. You can spend the time between screenings at one of the exhibitions prepared, in the Radio 1 Lounge in the Thermal relaxation zone or in the Open Air Stage of the Karlovy Vary music theatre “Under the bridge”. At night, you can rollick in the “Peklo” club or let yourselves be put to sleep by the “Good Night Stories” screened every midnight in Cinema B of the Thermal. More on the additional events >>

Celebrities

The invitation to the 47^th year of the KVIFF was accepted e.g. by the actress Helen Mirren, the actress and athlete Aimee Mullins, the Danish actor Thomas Bo Larsen and a number of Czech VIPs, e.g. Aňa Geislerová, Jitka Schneiderová etc. Naturally, the Festival president Jiří Bartoška cannot miss the festival, and the Czech President Václav Klaus came as well.
