Jazzfest Karlovy Vary – Sokolov 2012

The XXIXth year of the international jazz festival, taking place on October 8 – 20, 2012 in Karlovy Vary and Sokolov.
The Jazzfest’s dramaturgy focuses mostly on modern jazz and its fusion with other music genres, with the participation of musicians from all over the world. This year’s festival will be launched on Monday, 8 October at 7 pm in the Music club “M” (Hudební klub “M”) in Sokolov by the Brazilian singer and guitar player Adriano Trindade.

The Karlovy Vary part of Jazzfest will open in the intimate environment of the theatre Divadlo Husovka on Saturday, 13 October at 7:30 pm. A number of musicians will come to play and recollect with the accompaniment of the Karlovy Vary’s Repreband: the trumpet players Jaromír Hnilička and Bob Zajíček, the pianist Karel Růžička, the singer and contrabass player Antonín Gondolán, the Karlovy Vary saxophone player Jaromír Šostok, Alojs Ježek, Štěpán Podéšť, and others.

Workshops and jazz shops which have been taking place since January of this year are part of the festival as well. Their participants will perform on Thursday, 11 October from 9 pm in the Drahomíra Cinema. An education concert for secondary schools students titled “The Making of Jazz” and performed by the Karlovy Vary big band Gringos will take place on Tuesday 16 October from 10 am in Spa III (Lázně III).

The peaks of this year’s Jazzfest will be the concert of the world famous Argentina composer and saxophone player Javier Girotto, accompanied by the Czech Pigeon Saxophone Quartet on Thursday 18 October in the Festive Hall of the Grandhotel Pupp, and the concert of the Czecho-Slovak ensemble – Miroslav Hloucal quartet feat. Ondřej Štveráček on Saturday, 20 October at 7:30 pm in the Antonín Dvořák Concert Hall in Spa III in Karlovy Vary.

The common jam-session will close the XXIXth International jazz festival – the “Jazzfest Karlovy Vary – Sokolov 2012” on Saturday, 20 October from 11 pm in the pleasant environment of the Popart Café in Karlovy Vary.
