Interactive Encyclopaedia of the Town of Cheb

On 1 May 2013, the town of Cheb will launch a new project – the Interactive Encyclopaedia of the Town of Cheb. This web application offers information about 200 most prominent monuments of Cheb to all lovers of history and monuments. The electronic encyclopaedia allows fast and comfortable access to information and background material which could not be included in regular, even though meticulously prepared, printed editions.

The monuments presented on the website www.encyklopedie.cheb.cz are categorized clearly and you can search them by different criteria as well as through the full-text feature. All monuments are also depicted on a map. Besides the monuments, you will also find information about significant events from Cheb in the encyclopaedia, and about over 500 personalities presented as part of the project of “950 Faces and Fates of the Town of Cheb”.

The encyclopaedia is accessible in 3 language versions (Czech, German, English), allowing also the international public to find out what monuments they can visit in Cheb. The text information is supplemented by both historical and contemporary photos, videos and other interesting files. You will also find archive and museum material in the encyclopaedia not accessible on a regular basis otherwise. The encyclopaedia should serve not only the specialists but predominantly the wide public that is why there is also tourist information attached to the individual monuments – opening hours, entrance fees, etc. The website visitors may also join the monuments selected into routes and export them subsequently into PDF or send them to their e-mail. They may also take advantage of the pre-prepared topical routes.

This does not exhaust the full extent of the options offered by the interactive encyclopaedia though. Unlike the printed encyclopaedias, its content will keep extending. In this way, a unique project without parallel in the Czech Republic is being created.

The Interactive Encyclopaedia of the Town of Cheb has been developed in cooperation of the town of Cheb, the Alois John Association, the State Area Archives of Cheb and the Museum of Cheb, subsidized organization of the Region of Karlovy Vary. It was produced by the company 2 M STUDIO s. r. o. from Ostrov, the winner of the tender. The project was co-financed in 85% by the Regional Operation Program NUTSII North-West, specifically by CZK 1.23 mil.

We would also like to invite you to the presentation of the project of the Interactive Encyclopaedia of the Town of Cheb to the public which will take place on Tuesday, 30 April 2013 from 11:00 in the Tourist Info-centre of Cheb, Jateční 476/2, Cheb.
