The most beautiful holidays of the year are getting near. The Advent in Karlovy Vary starts on Sunday, 2 December 2012.The Advent period lasts for four weeks before the Christmas Eve and it is a preparation for Christmas. In the past people fasted, kept the traditions and prayed. Today the Advent can be a great stress – Christmas cleaning, baking of cookies, shopping for Christmas gifts, no time for your family… The Advent time is not only a time of hectic shopping and hurry, though. Come and enjoy the unique Christmas atmosphere of Karlovy Vary. Everyone is sure to find something of interest during the Advent time in Karlovy Vary.

Cultural events offer

Christmas Markets at the T. G. Masaryk Street by the main post office are taking place from 28 November 2012 to 23 December 2012, always from 10.00 a.m. to 6 p.m. You can look forward to a rich additional programme, children workshops, music and theatre performances and much more. A festive lighting of the Christmas tree will take place on the evening of Sunday, 2 December 2012 by the main post office – a stout spruce from Bohatice.

The Grandhotel Pupp – the programme for this year promises a rich mix of traditions, entertainment and gastronomy specialties, all starting in front of the Grandhotel Pupp on the first Advent Sunday, 2 December 2012 by the lighting of the Christmas tree. There will be an Advent meeting with singing, children workshop, aromatic hot punch and Christmas cookies taking place under this tree on every Advent Sunday, from 4-6 p.m. At the same time a competition of the Karlovy Vary primary schools will be taking place there as well, with the topic of the best artistic rendering of the Grandhotel Pupp. The winning team will receive a token for a common lunch in the Grandhotel Pupp during the special announcement of results on the last Sunday of Advent.

Regional Library Karlovy Vary – the Dvory Café organizes an exhibition of the New Year’s wishes cards of the Karlovy Vary Region’s artists, until 28 December 2012.

Baby Jesus Post Office
The Baby Jesus Post Office has been in operation in Boží Dar for eighteen years. Every child or adult can place their special wishes into Baby Jesus’ mail box. In December, Baby Jesus will send them to the addressees. Those who cannot make it to Boží Dar personally can send their wishes to the Boží Dar post office. Every year a new special Christmas stamp appears on the wishes. The Baby Jesus Post Office processes thousands of postal items. This year it will start stamping items on 1 December 2012.

Baby Jesus Trail
You can also follow in the tracks of Baby Jesus along the Baby Jesus Trail round the year. The Baby Jesus Trail is full of fun and tasks for both small and bigger children who can choose setting out on the full route (12.9 km) or the abbreviated route (5.6 km). They will fulfil different tasks along the way which they will enter in a card collected in the beginning in the Infocentre at Boží Dar. They will also receive small gifts there when they submit the filled-in cards.

Farmers Markets will take place on Friday, 14 December, from 11.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. in the centre of Karlovy Vary in front of the former “Tržnice”. Regional manufacturers’ products will be sold there.

Josef Lada’s World
The exhibition of “Josef Lada’s World" in the Arts Gallery in Karlovy Vary takes place on 8 November 2012 – 20 January 2013.

Doubí Chateau presents the Christmas House – round-the-year exhibition of Christmas decorations, hand-painted glass decorations, beads and lace decorations.

Christmas carols are an integral part of Christmas, creating just the right Christmas atmosphere.
